Blown Fiberglass in Attics

- Energy Star recommends an R-38 for attic insulation in most counties in the Kansas City area.
- The Hayes Company uses Certainteed Insulsafe SP blown fiberglass in a majority of these applications.
- Fiberglass provides an extremely efficient and clean insulation system.
- Fiberglass is not an air barrier and should be used in conjuction with air sealing by hand or with Air-Tite Spray Foam insulation to stop air movement.
- An extremely effective way to insulate an attic is to first foam the attic with 3 1/2 - 4 inches of open cell foam to stop air infiltration, then insulate over the spray foam with blown fiberglass in order to get a high R-Value.
